Update! This project was featured on Craft Gossip this afternoon! Thanks so much!
One of my fondest memories as a kid was when my Mum would make home-made play doh. I would always get to choose the color, and help knead it once it was cool enough.
(Yup, that's me as a tot!)

I always giggle when I see those teeny tiny tubs of play doh you can buy en masse for Valentines and Halloween treats because I know it is sooo quick, easy and cheap to make.
Here's how you can make your own play doh Valentines for the kiddos to take to school and pass out to friends, without breaking your budget...
Play Doh Valentines
Ingredients
2 cups plain flour
1 cup salt
2 cups water
2 tbsp vegetable oil
2 tsp cream of tartar
food coloring
(super easy) Directions
Combine all ingredients in a medium to large pan over low heat.
Stir! It's a good arm workout!
I nabbed these little heart containers at the dollar store - I think there were 10 per bag. Put a little play doh in each, and there you have it!
And yes, you will start to see an obnoxious amount of hearts, pink and red fonts, and all kinds of Valentines-ish projects around here in the next couple of weeks. I just can't help myself!

Bowl haircuts were so The Thing weren't they. And the tracksuit? Nothing comes to mind girl except you must've rocked!
Love it Joanne! I'm going to make some for Logan to take on Valentine's day to school! So cute!
How many of those containers does one batch of play doh fill?
Thanks!
Lindsey
Oh man, it makes a BIG batch! I believe there are 12 tubs per pack, and I would guess you could fill AT LEAST 24 of them with one batch... probably more!
How cute, what a great idea! I've got boys, and they are always blah over exchanges valentines, I think they would LOVE this. And it's so thrifty...which works for me cause I'm a cheapo.bahaha
Stopping by from SITS..I love your blog!
What a cute idea! I'm going to have to check the dollar store to see if I can find containers like those.
I don't know why, but I can't see anyone's "follow" button today. Someimes google friend does work for me. I want to follow and see more of your projects!

Homemade playdough rocks! I used to make this all the time for my kids until I found out that my oldest is allergic to gluten. Ugh! I think this is an excellent idea for Valentines!
Shear brilliance! What a wonderful idea! I will be adding this to my late winter notebook. Thank you!!!
Val
Thanks everyone!
Hey Joanne - which of the Dollar Stores did you guy those hearts at? I went to the regular Dollar Store by my house, but they didn't have any. Maybe Dollar General or a different one? I figured I would just ask you rather than drive all over Ypsi/Ann Arbor looking for some! Thanks!
Hi Lindsey! I found mine at The Dollar Tree... but I also saw them last night at Michaels!
